The draw for the Europa League, along with the Conference League, was made on Friday in Monaco. The Champions League fixtures were drawn on Thursday. All three UEFA club competitions are using a new ‘Swiss style’ format for the first round, in which all teams will be entered into a single league table.

The new format has had some criticism but the draw for the competitions went smoothly. The only real frustration so far is that fans have to wait to discover the order of those fixtures and the dates on which games will be played.

That’s because UEFA needs to ensure that there are no fixture clashes with multiple games played on the same day in the same city. Now that all three competitions have been drawn, European soccer’s governing body will draw up a fixture list and announce the schedule for the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League on Saturday, August 31.
