What are Real Madrid’s squad numbers for the 2023/24 season?
Swaps and summer arrivals have led to a host of changes to Real Madrid’s squad numbers since the end of the 2022/23 campaign.
There are only two shirt numbers now available in Real Madrid’s squad for the 2023/24 season: No. 9 and No. 14.
One of those is set to be given to Joselu Mato, who is expected to complete a close-season move from Espanyol imminently. The Spain striker’s arrival will leave Madrid with almost no more room in a first-team group that has witnessed a squad-number merry-go-round in recent days. Departures are in the offing, with Álvaro Odriozola open to leaving the club this summer. However, other fringe players such as Jesús Vallejo are intent on remaining at the Bernabéu.
What shirt-number changes have there been at Madrid?
Since the end of the 2022/23 season, the most notable shirt-number changes have seen Vinícius Júnior and Rodrygo Goes take on No. 7 and No. 11, respectively, following the departures of Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio. What’s more, marquee signing Jude Bellingham is the new incumbent of Madrid’s No. 5 shirt. Bellingham, who completed his move to the Bernabéu on Thursday, has persuaded Vallejo to vacate the historic jersey, whose most famous wearer was legendary former player and coach Zinédine Zidane.
Meanwhile, Brahim Díaz will sport 21 on his return from a three-year loan spell at AC Milan, having also worn the number at Madrid before leaving for Italy. Fran García, who has rejoined Los Blancos from Rayo Vallecano, is to wear No. 20.
