What Chicharito left behind at Chivas
Javier Hernández’s second spell at Chivas ends quietly after limited impact, few goals and a costly missed penalty late in the Apertura 2025.

Javier Hernández returned to Chivas in 2024 expected to provide answers in attack, but he never truly did, and his second spell with the club came and went without leaving much of a mark. With his contract expiring this December, the striker will not remain with the Guadalajara side.
Since rejoining the red-and-white club, the all-time leading scorer for the Mexico national team appeared in just 41 games across Liga MX and the CONCACAF Champions Cup. Across those appearances, the forward managed only four goals, a modest return for a player brought in to lead the line.

His most recent goal came in Week 17 of the Apertura 2025, when he scored the fourth in a 4–2 win over Monterrey. There is speculation that the former Manchester United player will not retire just yet, as he reportedly has offers on the table to continue his professional career.
His final months were marked by a decisive moment that went against him. The striker missed a penalty that would have sent Chivas into the semifinals against Cruz Azul, a miss that sparked calls from fans for his departure. With no contract renewal agreed, his exit was ultimately confirmed.
