Chivas Guadalajara new boy Erick Gutiérrez says he chose to join the Liga MX giants despite receiving offers to stay in Europe.

Chivas confirmed Gutiérrez’s signing on Sunday, the Mexican international returning to his home country after five years at Dutch club PSV Eindhoven.

Guadalajara move “always my first choice”

“I’m really happy - those who are close to me know just what this means to me,” the 28-year-old midfielder said. “From the first moment that Chivas approached me, coming here was always my first choice.

I had other opportunities in European soccer and here in Mexico, but I was focused on coming to Chivas.

“In interviews that I’ve done before, I’ve always said that this is a club I’ve always wanted to play for.

“And there’s also the fact that all the players at Chivas are Mexican; that’s something really special, as is the support the team gets from its fans.

“There’s been talk of this deal happening for a month now, and the supporters have really made me feel wanted.”

Chivas, who were beaten finalists in the Liga MX’s Clausura 2023 tournament, get their Apertura 2023 campaign underway against Club León on Monday.
