What does Ronaldo’s future hold?

After a rocky start to the Premier League season and even rockier relationship with Manchester United coach Erik Ten Hag, what’s next for Cristiano Ronaldo?

Manager Erik Ten Hag has taken a tough approach with Cristiano Ronaldo, saying that despite how much he wants to start games, he still has to prove to him that he should be starting games. It would seem Ronaldo has yet to prove anything, except that he’s mad about it. The Manchester United coach has been quite patient as Ronaldo left a preseason friendly early, stormed off the field on Wednesday after being subbed out, and left the game early on Wednesday after never having taken the field. Ten Hag said things like he understands and it’s normal, and he is just focusing on the team. But those actions are not without consequence. Though the frustration may be normal, it’s still a job, and Ronaldo is still expected to act like a professional.

Spoiler alert: he did not have to go to the bathroom. Ronaldo issued a…statement? It certainly wasn’t an apology. But he did offer an explanation on Instagram of his thought process after Sunday’s outburst.

Be that as it may, the consequences as of now include being exiled from the first-team squad when the team faces Chelsea on Saturday, and possibly longer plus the possibility of a a £1 million fine (two weeks salary).

Ronaldo’s rocky future with Manchester United

Back in July, Ronaldo stated his displeasure being a part of a team that would not play in the Champions League, the first time that’s happened to the Portuguese star since the 2002-03 season.

Ten Hag at that point made it clear: “Ronaldo is not for sale.”

But now, after his shenanigans, perhaps he is not just for sale, but free for the taking. Some rumors have Ronaldo moving to Inter Miami. Inter need a new star after Gonzalo Higuan’s career was ended after losing in the playoffs. Then we’ve got some betters saying that Chelsea or Roma could sign Ronaldo. Chelsea now have Graham Potter at their helm and are on the lookout to improve the attack. Either way, it seems he’ll get his wish to not stay, as it looks like his time with Manchester United is quickly dwindling.
