As things stand, most confederations have started or are poised to start the qualifying process with reigning champions Argentina looking to become the third nation ever to defend their title.
As the countdown to the competition continues, FIFA in parallel ramp up the hype surrounding the tournament and have launched a novel music based initiative: The Host City Global ID project.
The move sees some of the most talented and influential producers/musicians from the sixteen host cities across Canada, Mexico and the US have created bespoke Sonic IDs or audio brands that connect with the tournament.
Each city has selected a producer to remix the Official FIFA World Cup 26 Theme, adding a local flavour which showcases the local subtleties of their own city.
