Real Madrid discovered their league stage opponents for the 2024/25 Champions League on Thursday. The first round fixtures for the expanded competition were drawn during a glitzy event at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.

Los Blancos are the reigning European champions and have been given an interesting draw in the first round of the Champions League: Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool, AC Milan, Atalanta, Salzburg, Lille, Stuttgart and Brest.

However we still don’t know who summer signing Kylian Mbappé will face in his first Champions League game for Real Madrid. The fixture list will not be confirmed until after the Europa League and Conference League draws have been completed on Friday. Dates will be announced on Saturday, August 31st.

The Frenchman is yet to show his true potential in his first two LaLiga appearances, failing to score in any of Madrid’s opening fixtures. However he was on the scoresheet in his debut for the club, firing home confidently in the UEFA Super Cup against Atlanta. Head coach Carlo Ancelotti admitted recently that it would take time for Mbappé to gel in his new team.

How many Champions League goals has Kylian Mbappé scored?

Still only 25 years old, Kylian Mbappé now feels like a part of the furniture in the Champions League. He made his debut in the competition back in September 2016, at the age of 17, and went on to score six UCL goals that season. He scored against Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus as an exciting Monaco side made it to the semi-finals.

After that breakthrough season he joined Paris Saint-Germain and has gone continued his impressive scoring record, despite never having lifted the trophy.

In total Mbappé has made 73 Champions Leagues appearances, scoring 48 goals and recording 26 assists in that time. He is the joint-13th highest scoring in Champions League and European Cup, level with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

If Mbappé has a good first season at Real Madrid he could overtake some all-time legends and find himself much higher up the rankings. Above Mbappé are Alberto Di Stefano (49 goals), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (49), Filippo Inzaghi (50) and Thierry Henry (51).
