As is the case every year, French newspaper L’Équipe has revealed the gross salaries of every player in France’s Ligue 1. To the surprise of absolutely nobody, the Paris Saint-Germain roster dominates the top of the rankings, filling the first 10 spots, and Kylian Mbappé, strong rumoured to be joining Real Madrid in the summer, leading the way.

The first players from other clubs on the list are Monaco’s Wissam Ben Yedder and Pierre-Emerick Aubemayang, who are tied in 11th place on €650,000 (around $708,800) per month before tax.

That figure is a little over a tenth of what Mbappé takes home.

How much does Mbappé make at PSG? Who is Real Madrid’s top earner?

The two-year contract extension the French captain signed in 2022 earns him €6 million (approximately $6.54 million) a month before tax, the most of any player in European soccer. That translates to a gross salary of €72 million (over $78.5 million) a year.

According to Capology, Toni Kroos is currently Real Madrid’s top earner on €2.03 million ($2.21 million) per month, which is $24.38 million (around $26.55 million) yearly. It has been widely reported that Mbappé will take a significant wage cut to join Los Blancos but will receive a huge signing-on fee to off-set it somewhat.

Mbappé's salary streets ahead of PSG teammates...and Luis Enrique

Mbappé's teammates Ousmane Dembélé and Marquinhos are joint second on the list in France, but are some way behind. The pair make €1.12 million (about $1.22 million) per month before tax and €13.44 million (just under $14.66 million) per season. They are followed by Lucas Hernández (€1.11 million/$1.21 million per month) and Milan Skriniar (€1.1 million/$1.2 million).

Forme Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio, who joined PSG from the LaLiga giants last summer, is the eighth highest earner in France on €850,000 (just under $927,000) a month, which is €10.2 million (just over $11.22 million) a year before tax.

Who is the best-paid manager in the world?

Again, nobody will be shocked by the revelation Luis Enrique is Ligue 1′s best-paid manager. According to L’Équipe, the former Barcelona head coach pockets €923,250 (just over $1 million) a month, which is just under €12 million (a little over $13 million) a year.

That figure is less than what current Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino earned (€1.11 million/$1.21 million per month) as PSG boss, which was the most in the club’s history.

For context, Toulouse manager Carlos Martínez, another Spaniard, earns just €20,000 ($21,782) per month, the lowest in the French top division.

Atlético Madrid’s Diego Simeone is reportedly the top-earning manager in world soccer, receiving €34 million ($37.03 million) per year before tax.
