Sunday’s game between Manchester United and Liverpool at Old Trafford promises to be highlight of matchday three in the 2024/25 Premier League, with Arne Slot’s team looking to make it nine points from three games and join Manchester City at the top of the table. Mohamed Salah will, as ever, be crucial to their chances of defeating The Red Devils, his favourite victims.

The Reds have opened the season with comfortable 2-0 victories over Ipswich Town and Brentford, with Salah scoring one goal in each game.

United, on the other hand, appear to have picked up from where they left off last season, when they finished eighth. Although they kicked off with a 1-0 home win over Fulham, they suffered a last-minute defeat to Brighton last weekend, which has added to the pressure manager Erik Ten Hag is under.

Mohamed Salah’s superb goalscoring record against Manchester United

To make matters worse for The Red Devils, they are now set to face Salah, who just loves playing against them.

Since moving to the Premier League, the Egyptian has played against United 15 times and scored 14 goals, 11 of which have come in the Premier League. He has also provided four assists, which means he averages 1.2 goal contributions per game against The Red Devils.

No player has scored more goals in matches between the two clubs, while Salah has netted more times against United than against any other team in his career (12 versus Spurs, 11 against Manchester City and West Ham).

United - Liverpool: recent meetings

What might give Ten Hag caused for optimism, however, is that the attacker’s overall team record doesn’t quite match his individual achievements. Liverpool have won six, drawn five and lost four of those 14 meetings with their rivals, who have generally underachieved for most of Salah’s time in England.
