On Tuesday, August 15, the semifinal of the Leagues Cup between Monterrey and Nashville SC will take place, a match that will undoubtedly generate great excitement among the fans of both clubs.

Monterrey reached the last four after eliminating Portland Timbers, rival Tigres and one of the favorites for the tournament, Carlos Vela’s LAFC. Nashville have defeated Cincinnati, América and Minnesota to reach the semi-finals.

The winner of Monterrey-Nashville SC will play the winner of Inter Miami vs Philadelphia Union in the Leagues Cup final on Saturday.

CONCACAF Champions League

Monterrey have won the CONCACAF Champions League title on five occasions. The first of these came with three in a row (2010-2011, 2011-2012 and 2012-2013) after defeating Real Salt Lake 3-2 on aggregate, Santos Laguna 2-0 in the following edition and then again the same Guerreros de la Comarca, by a score of 4-2.

From there, the reached the final again in 2019, for another episode of the Clasico Regio, where they beat Enner Valencia and Co. 2-1 on aggregate. Subsequently, and after the suspension of the competition due to the pandemic, it was in 2021 that they won the title again, only this time it was against América. It is worth mentioning that Monterrey have not lost a single final in the tournament.

Club World Cup

On the other hand, and despite not managing to bring the trophy home, Rayados’ participation in Club World Cups has been quite decent, as on two occasions they won the Third Place medal, after beating Al-Ahly in Japan in 2012 and Al-Hilal in Qatar in 2019.

The Mexican side have a good track record in international tournaments, and despite the significant absence of star striker Germán Berterame due to injury, they have the talent to beat their next opponents and reach another final.
