What shirt number will Casemiro wear at Manchester United?

Casemiro is set to become Manchester United’s fourth signing of the summer after the Premier League club announced an agreement with Real Madrid on Friday.

The Brazilian will fly to Manchester and complete his medical before putting pen to paper on an initial four-year deal with an option to extend by a further year.

Despite playing as a holding midfielder and being one of the first names on the teamsheet at Real Madrid, Casemiro held on to his number 14 shirt at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Unfortunately for the 30-year-old, new United signing Christian Eriksen has claimed 14 after Jesse Lingard joined Nottingham Forest. Playing as a ‘6′ qualifies Casemiro to wear 6, however, defender Lisandro Martínez has grabbed the shirt at Old Trafford, a number Casemiro wore for Porto during his spell with the Portuguese giants.

Number 15

Number 15 became available when Andreas Pereira left to join newly-promoted side Fulham this summer. Club legend Nemanja Vidic wore 15 for United from 2006 until 2014 and it could be Casemiro’s preferred option as it contains 5, his number with Brazil.

Casemiro wore 18 for Real Madrid Castilla. The number is also now available after Bruno Fernandes changed to 8 when Spanish playmaker Juan Mata left the club.

Other numbers available to Casemiro at United include 13, 21, 24 and 30. The number 21 is unused and it could be the number that Frenkie de Jong takes, but it is looking unlikely that we will see the Dutchman in a United shirt anytime soon.
