What shirt number will LA Galaxy’s Riqui Puig wear in MLS?
Earlier this month, the Los Angeles Galaxy signed midfielder Puig from Barcelona on a three-and-a-half-year contract.
Having confirmed the signing of Riqui Puig from Barcelona on 4 August, on Thursday the Los Angeles Galaxy announced the number the 22-year-old will wear in MLS.
On social media, the franchise posted an image of Puig posing in the Galaxy jersey, with the No. 6 on the back.
Puig takes over Galaxy No. 6 from Raveloson
The midfielder, who has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with the five-time MLS champions, sported the same number at Barça during the 2021/22 season.
The shirt became available in LA when Madagascar international Rayan Raveloson left Dignity Health Sports Park for Ligue 1 side Auxerre earlier this month.
Midfielder set for debut vs Whitecaps or Sounders
Puig is expected to make his Galaxy debut either against the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday 13 August, or against the Seattle Sounders on Friday 19 August.
Both are home games for Greg Vanney’s men, who sit ninth in the MLS Western Conference, three points off a playoff place, with 11 games still to play in the regular season.
The MLS regular season concludes on 9 October, with the playoffs scheduled to begin six days later. The postseason culminates in the MLS Cup final on 5 November.
