There’s a brand new way for iPhone users to keep track of all the goings-on in their favorite sports, as Apple have released a free app, Apple Sports, which “gives sports fans access to real-time scores, stats, and more.” from a host of sports tournament around the world, including the Premier League, MLS, LaLiga and the NBA.

What does the Apple Sports app do?

According to the technology giants, speed and simplicity are at the forefront of the user experience, with fans able to bookmark their favourite sports, leagues and teams to be able to quickly find the scores and stats they’re looking for.

As well as play-by-play information, team stats, lineup details and live betting odds from different tournaments around the world, users will also be able to easily switch to the Apple TV app if the game they are interested in is being broadcast live there.

Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Services, explains: “We created Apple Sports to give sports fans what they want — an app that delivers incredibly fast access to scores and stats. Apple Sports is available for free in the App Store, and makes it easy for users to stay up to date with their favorite teams and leagues.”

Which tournaments are covered? Where is the app available?

At the time of the app’s release (Wednesday 21 February), iPhone users will be able to follow 10 different leagues which are in season at the moment:

Soccer

  • MLS (USA)
  • Bundesliga (Germany)
  • LaLiga (Spain)
  • Liga MX (Mexico)
  • Ligue 1 (France)
  • Premier League (England)
  • Serie A (Italy)

Basketball

  • NCAA (men’s and women’s)

Ice Hockey

  • NHL

Additional sports and leagues, including including MLB, NFL, NCAAF, NWSL, and WNBA, will be added to the app further down the line once their seasons get underway.

Apple Sports, which is free to download, is already accessible to users in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, with support available in English, French and Spanish at present.
