What to expect when Liga MX returns after the September FIFA break?

Matchday 8 of the Liga MX Apertura 2023 is imminent next weekend with a Clasico Nacional between América and Chivas as the highlight.

Liga MX, as well as the rest of the major international tournaments has been put momentarily on pause as players are in action for their respective nations as part of the FIFA break.

El Tri have two friendly games during this window and recorded a 2-2 against Australia and now face Uzbekistan this Tuesday, 12 September in Dallas. Soon after the final whistle in Texas, thoughts will then return to the domestic game with matchday 8 of the 2023 Liga MX Apertura coming up at the weekend.

When does Liga MX return?

Atletico San Luis are surprise league leaders and the side from San Luis Potosi are in action on Sunday as they head to Mexico City to face Pumas. The spotlight, however this weekend falls on the Estadio Azteca on Saturday night as Club America face Chivas Guadalajara in the Clásico Nacional with both teams desperate for three points in their push to ensure a top four place.

  • Tijuana vs. Toluca at 11:00 p.m. (ET)

Saturday September 16

  • Necaxa vs. Juárez at 6:00 p.m. (ET)

  • America vs. Guadalajara at 11:05 p.m. (ET)

Sunday September 17

  • Pumas vs. San Luis at 2:00 p.m.
  • Querétaro vs. Puebla at 7:00 p.m.

Monday September 18

  • Pachuca vs. Santos at 11:00 p.m (ET)

The following Wednesday, (September 20 at 10:06 p.m. (ET), América will travel to Querétaro which was the postponed matchday 2 clash that had to be rescheduled.
