The 35-year-old defender confirmed that his time as a Barcelona player has come to an end with Saturday’s game set to be his last at Camp Nou.
Barcelona defender stunned the footballing world on Thursday evening posting a poignant message via his social media channels confirming that his time as a FC Barcelona player. He added that Saturday’s LaLiga game at home to Almeria would be his last at Camp Nou.
Later, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Piqué would have his playing contract terminated next week and the player has written off the rest of his contract (salary) through to June (2023).
Piqué joined Barcelona’s ‘La Masia’ youth academy when he was 10 years old, playing for the under-age teams as a defensive midfielder but moved to Manchester United in 2004 and spent four years with the Red Devils before returning to the Catalan capital in 2008, with the club paying $5.5 million for his services with a season on-loan in between with Real Zaragoza.
