Numerous injuries have impeded Eden Hazard’s playing time since he arrived in Spain. The Belgian has sustained 17 injuries during his three-and-a-half-year tenure in Madrid, although most were minor setbacks. The midfielder’s injuries resulted in missing 78 matches for the club. In addition, he has been benched more frequently than he has been on the field during his tenure at Real Madrid.

Real Madrid aimed to negotiate the player’s transfer with other teams to recoup some of their expenditure potentially. Regrettably, no team was willing to incur the cost of his contract, which amounts to approximately 15 million euros per annum net. Furthermore, he is the second-highest earner after Benzema. Therefore, they were presented with the dilemma of retaining him for an additional year, thereby occupying a slot that could be filled by another player or releasing him, and they opted for the latter.

But what happens with the year Eden Hazard had left with Real Madrid?

Per reports, the decision was based upon an agreement of both parties. This could mean that he was paid his last contract year and released from the club. As mentioned before, his salary was around 15 million euros net.

The club said, “Real Madrid wants to express its affection for Eden Hazard and wishes him and his entire family the best of luck in this new period.”
