What will João Félix’s arrival at Chelsea mean for Christian Pulisic?
Portuguese international João Félix has reportedly reached a verbal agreement to sign for Chelsea on loan from Atlético Madrid.
João Félix’s imminent loan move to Chelsea doesn’t come as good news for Christian Pulisic, who was slowly gaining the trust of manager Graham Potter. The United States international returned from the World Cup in top form and was being used as a regular starter in the first games following the break.
Pulisic experienced some difficult times at club level in the first part of the season and he went on to start in consecutive Premier League games for the second time under Potter. But it seemed that the 24-year-old was being used to attract other clubs who might be interested in signing him during the transfer window, to make space for the arrival of João Félix.
Pulisic facing uncertain future
Once the Portuguese winger completes his switch to Stamford Bridge, it will create more competition for the current attackers and ‘Captain America’ could be the player sacrificed. The Blues are struggling to score goals and they hope that João Félix is the solution, meaning that he will automatically earn minutes upon arrival.
Especially because Pulisic suffered another injury last week against Manchester City and Potter said that the player will be out for a few weeks. This opens the door for João Félix to settle in the right-wing position, where Pulisic usually operates, and this could force the American to remain on the bench for the remainder of the season.
