When and where is the 2023 Women’s World Cup draw?
All eyes will be on the Aotea Centre in Auckland, New Zealand next Saturday as the draw for the 2023 Women’s World Cup will be staged.
The city of Auckland in New Zealand will take centre stage next Saturday as the draw will be made for the 2023 Women’s World Cup with the tournament set to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
The event gets underway next summer running from 20 July to 20 August and will be the first time the Women’s World Cup featuring 32 teams with the group stage draw set to be made on Saturday (22 October).
At present we know 29 of the 32 participants with the final three nations set to be resolved from a 10 team intercontinental play-off system scheduled for next February with: Portugal, Chile, Chinese Taipei, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, Paraguay, Haiti, Panama, Cameroon and Senegal all looking for a ticket to the competition.
8 groups of four teams
All 32 nations will be organised in four pots according to their current FIFA ranking with eight groups of four teams to be drawn. Each group will feature a team from Pot, Pot 2, Pot 3 and four. The teams that finish in first and second positions in their group will progress to the knockout Round of 16.
The tournament will kick off on 20 July, 2023 with New Zealand in action in Auckland in match #1. The final is scheduled for 20 August at the 82,000 capacity Stadium Australia in Sydney with the United States the current world champions.
The draw for the group stage will take place this forthcoming Saturday (22 October) at 7:30 pm (local time) / 08:30 CEST and 2:30 a.m. ET.
