When and where is the Concacaf Champions League final?
Steve Cherundolo’s team will play against either Tigres or Leon in a bid to become just the second MLS side to lift the trophy.
LAFC booked their place in the final of the Concacaf Champions League (CCL) on Tuesday night, despatching the Philadelphia Union with a 4-1 aggregate victory.
The Los Angeles side will be out to get revenge for their defeat in the final of the 2020 competition, in which they suffered a narrow 2-1 loss to Tigres.
As it stands, Tigres have a one-goal lead ahead of their second leg against Club León and LAFC will be hoping to get some payback against the Mexican giants in the final. For reigning MLS Cup holders LAFC, continental success in the CCL would reiterate their claims to be MLS’ top side.
When will the Concacaf Champions League final be held?
The final of the Concacaf competition is comprised of two legs, with one game to be played at the home stadium of each of the finalists.
This year the two legs will be held on 31 May and 4 June.
No matter who wins out of Tigres and León, the final will be a fascinating matchup between representatives from North America’s best two leagues. This year’s final will be the sixth time in the past 13 years that the final has been comprised of one team from each of MLS and Liga MX.
For LAFC, the chance to become only the second ever MLS CCL winner represents a real shot at history. Last year the Seattle Saunders become the first US-based side to lift the continental tournament.
“We are ecstatic to be in the final of this competition,” head coach Steve Cherundolo said after the final whistle on Tuesday.
“It’s a competition that was the highlight on our calendar, as well as MLS for sure, in the first half of the season. So far we’ve accomplished the goals that we’ve set for ourselves. There’s one more to go.”
