Chivas Guadalajara beat Tigres 2-1 in Saturday’s Clausura 2023 match-up at the Volcán - a win that saw Veljko Paunovic’s men move level on points with the second-placed Auriazules.

First defeat for Tigres as Chivas streak goes on

Chivas took the lead early through Gilberto Sepúlveda, before Ronaldo Cisneros doubled the visitors’ lead 10 minutes before the break. Nico Ibáñez’s late penalty gave Tigres hope of snatching a point from the matchday-nine clash, but Guadalajara held out to stretch their recent run without defeat to six games.

Tigres, on the other hand, saw their unbeaten record in the Clausura 2023 come to an end.

Chivas’ victory was only their second at the Volcán in their last 17 visits, stretching back to 2010.

Guadalajara unbeaten in over a month

The last time the 12-time Mexican champions lost in the current Liga MX tournament was on matchday four, against Toluca on 21 January. Since then, the Guadalajarans have won four - against Juárez, Tijuana, Pumas and Tigres - and drawn two, against Querétaro and Pachuca.
