Daedalus built the Labyrinth for King Minos of Crete as a holding pen for the terrifying Minotaur. It is said that the design was so complex that even Deadalus himself could barely get out once he had completed the seemingly endless maze. What he did not know is that millions upon millions of pounds would be subsequently be thrown into the idea of the inescapable and that football would squeeze all of us inside, unable to find a doorway, the world’s greatest sport following us at every twist and turn.

It never stops, but I hope you’re not complaining. As the World Cup ups its intensity and downs its regularity, people across the globe sit back in their chairs, stopping to think how they ever survived without four matches a day - what was the world like before your child/brother/sister was born? I can’t remember, either. Have we always had multiple matches every day? We surely must have. Otherwise, what did we do on days without football? Stare at our phone screens? How boring.

When does the Premier League restart after the World Cup?

Alas, the World Cup circus (there has never been a better use of that particular cliché) will pack its bags and move along, leaving everyone behind like abandoned pets at the roadside, before furiously promoting the next round of World Cup qualifiers/Nations League/Premier League/Champions League/[insert competition here] that you absolutely must watch.

But anyway, when does it actually all start again? Well, the Premier League kicks waits a very reasonable 7 days before returning with Brentford vs Tottenham on 26 December before 4 other games start as the London derby concludes; Aston Villa vs Liverpool follows before Arsenal vs West Ham finishes of the match day.

The day after, Chelsea take on Bournemouth and Manchester United face Nottingham Forest. Leeds United host Manchester City in the final game of match day 17 of 38 in England.

When does La Liga restart after the World Cup?

La Liga takes a more reserved approach, waiting 10 days before returning on the 29 December, with Girona vs Rayo Vallecano before Real Betis vs Athletic Club and Atlético Madrid vs Elche. Seven games take place over the next two days leading up to New Year including Valladolid vs Real Madrid (30 December) and Villarreal vs Barcelona (31 December). You cannot escape football’s labyrinth.
