There will be a new Leagues Cup champion this year with MLS teams Columbus Crew and Los Angeles FC aiming to get their name etched on the trophy in Ohio on Sunday night.

For the second edition running, the Leagues Cup final will be an all-American affair. Last year’s final saw MLS newcomers Inter Miami and Nashville battle it out for the trophy - on Sunday, MLS champions Columbus Crew and Los Angeles FC will be seeing to become the fourth team to win the tournament.

The Crew eliminated Sporting Kansas City, Inter Miami (sans Leo Messi), New York City FC and the Philadelphia Union on their way to the final. They are the bookmakers favorites to win the final at +120.

Los Angeles meanwhile brushed aside Austin, the San Jose Earthquakes, Seattle and Colorado on their side of the bracket. The odds for an LAFC victory on Sunday are currently at +195 and +270 for the game to ended tied on 90 minutes.

Columbus Crew vs LAFC prediction

In the domestic league, both teams have a similar record and position in their respective conferences. In 23 games, the Crew have won 12, lost four and tied seven, while LAFC have played one game more, and sit second in the standings with 14 wins, five defeats and five games tied.

Both teams have been scoring freely throughout the tournament although Los Angeles have the better defensive figures. That indicates that we could be in for a cagey, close game. It’s a tough one to call but with Wilfried Nancy’s team having more experience of playing high pressure finals, and having a home crowd behind them, we think they might edge it on the night.

Prediction: Columbus Crew 2-1 LAFC.
