Two very different objectives will be on the line in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday night as Inter Miami face Charlotte FC.
The Herons are looking to sew up the Supporters’ Shield and in doing so are chasing the New England Revolution’s record of 73 points set in 2021 with Tata Martino’s men currently sitting on 64 with four games remaining in the regular season.
Inter Miami suffered disappointment last Saturday in the Big Apple as James Sands bagged an injury time goal to deny the Florida side maximum points after Leo Campana had put the visitors ahead.
Leo Messi was back for the side and played the full 90 minutes in that match and contributed an assist, his 15th of the season. The Argentine is now injury free and expected to start in Saturday’s game at home to Charlotte.
Erratic Charlotte
Charlotte FC have just managed one win in their five matches since returning from Leagues Cup action with the victory coming against halpless New England Revolution who prop up the Eastern Conference table.
The Crown sit on sixth position in the Eastern Conference, level on points with NYCFC, and just three points behind the New York Red Bulls in fourth. A win over Miami on Saturday combined with other results going their way and Dean Smith’s side could officially clinch their place in the 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs.
