When is the 2023 MLS SuperDraft? Who is eligible? How to watch online and on TV?
This year’s SuperDraft will have three rounds, and each club will have one selection available to them during each round, for a total of 88.
The MLS SuperDraft 2023, presented by Adidas on December 21, and mark your calendars. Despite the fact that the number of MLS academies is growing and clubs are benefiting from first-team minutes and moves, a few hidden stars may emerge.
How the MLS super draft works
The first choice goes to the newly formed St. Louis City SC, then to the clubs who were eliminated from the Audi 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs, starting with the club that finished the 2022 regular season with the fewest points, and finally to the expansion side St. Louis CITY SC (3 points per win, 1 point per tie).
Next, the clubs who were eliminated in the same round of the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs are compared against one another to see which one had the fewest regular-season points. This ranking determines the remaining spots.
Despite this, several clubs may improve their place due to trades.
There is still amazing value to be had in the SuperDraft, although it is not providing the same amount of Major League Soccer day-one starters as in previous years. In addition, remember that players who are part of Generation Adidas are not included in the wage limit. This allows teams a great deal of flexibility in the event that they strike gold.
