As is customary, Liga MX presents its awards to the outstanding individuals of the soccer season just completed. A few weeks prior to the commencement of the Apertura 2023, the members of Mexican soccer will hand over the awards to those who garner the most votes.

Who are the nominees for the Ballon d’Or?

The nominees were selected by a committee comprising technical directors and captains from the 18 clubs, as well as a council of journalists. As for the final voting process, fans had the opportunity to cast their votes for the winners online.

These were the nominees in the men’s game:

Best goalkeeper: Oscar Ustari (Pachuca) and Nahuel Guzman (Tigers)

Best centre-back: Gustavo Cabral (Pachuca) and Victor Guzmán (Monterrey)

Best winger: Kevin Alvarez (Pachuca) and Jesus Gallardo (Monterrey)

Best defensive midfielder: Luis Chávez (Pachuca) and Guido Pizarro (Tigers)

Best offensive midfielder: Alexis Vega (Chivas) and Diego Valdés (America)

Best striker: Nico Ibáñez (Pachuca) and Henry Martín (America)

Best Rookie: Emilio Lara (America) and Jaziel Martínez (Atlas)

Best technical director: Guillermo Almada (Pachuca) and Veljko Paunovic (Chivas)

And in the women’s game:

Best player: Lizbeth Ovalle (Tigers) and Charlyn Corral (Pachuca)

Best DT: Milagros Martínez (Juárez) and Ángel Villacampa (America)

What time will the Ballon d’Or Liga MX ceremony be broadcast?

The ceremony will take place on Saturday 24 June, however, it will not be broadcast until the following day (Sunday 25) after the Champion of Champions game has been played between Pachuca and the Tigres.

It is being held at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles, California.
