Atlético Madrid and Real Sociedad will meet in the 2026 Copa del Rey final, with Seville set to host the showpiece event for the seventh year in succession.

When is the Copa del Rey final?

This year’s Copa del Rey title decider is to be played at the Estadio de La Cartuja on Saturday, April 18, 2026. The kickoff time in the Andalusian capital is still to be confirmed.

What to know about La Cartuja

La Cartuja, a stadium with a capacity of 72,000, has hosted every Copa final since the tournament’s 2019/20 edition.

The arena is also regularly used for games played by Spain’s men’s national team, as well as being the temporary home of LaLiga side Real Betis. While the Seville club’s Estadio Benito Villamarín is renovated, Betis are to play at La Cartuja until 2028.

How did Atlético and Real Sociedad reach the Copa del Rey final?

Atlético edge Barça

Atlético, who are chasing their first Copa del Rey triumph since 2013, reached the final for the 20th time in their history with a 4-3 aggregate win over Barcelona in the semifinals.

Diego Simeone’s men thumped Barça 4-0 in last month’s first leg in Madrid, before stamping their final ticket despite a 3-0 defeat in Tuesday’s return.

Los Rojiblancos are 10-time winners of the major domestic cup competition in Spanish men’s soccer.

La Real win Basque battle

Meanwhile, Real Sociedad eliminated Basque rivals Athletic Club in this season’s Copa del Rey last four, earning a 2-0 aggregate success.

After a 1-0 victory in the opening leg at San Mamés three weeks ago, Pellegrino Matarazzo’s men completed the job in Wednesday’s second leg at Reale Arena. With three minutes to go in San Sebastián, Mikel Oyarzabal netted from the spot to make sure of La Real’s final berth.

Real Sociedad have lifted the Copa twice: most recently, the Txuri-urdin beat Athletic in the 2019/20 final - a game played in April 2021 due to the covid-19 pandemic.

Have Atlético and Real Sociedad met before in the Copa del Rey final?

Yes: Once. In 1987, Real Sociedad won 4-2 on penalties at La Romareda in Zaragoza, after a 2-2 draw.
