When is the game between Bayern Munich and Manchester City at Lambeau Field?
The Green Bay Packers’ stadium will host a soccer game for the first time in its history as part of the pre-season Audi Summer Tour 2022.
Lambeau Field is one of the oldest stadiums in the NFL and the home of the Green Bay Packers since 1957. Curiously, it has never hosted a game of the “other” football, but that is set to change in July when Bayern Munich and Manchester City will play a friendly fixture as part of the Audi Summer Tour 2022.
European giants Bayern and City will have the honour of becoming the first soccer teams to play at Lambeau Field when they take to the turf on 23 July.
“We are looking forward to hosting a different kind of football at Lambeau Field this summer as we welcome FC Bayern Munich and Manchester City to Green Bay,” Packers president and CEO said in a statement on social media.
City and Bayern to meet in the US for a second time
The game will be the second time City and Bayern have played each other in the US following a friendly at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami in 2018, which City won 3-2.
“We are very excited to be going to Green Bay to play Bayern Munich at Lambeau Field in the second friendly of our pre-season tour of the United States,” said Omar Berrada, director of operations for the City Football Group.
As noted by the Green Bay Press Gazzette, the game will not form part of the annual International Champions Cup as Lambeau Field, with a width of just 53.5 yards, does not meet the regulations laid out by FIFA. As such, it will be an exhibition game.
“Manchester City are one of the biggest clubs in the world. We are looking forward to the game in Green Bay and to be reunited with Pep Guardiola, who we have the best memories of after his time at FC Bayern. I’m sure it will be an interesting game for US soccer fans and fans everywhere,” said Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic.
Bayern are scheduled to play DC United on 20 July at the Allianz Field in Washington.
