When is USWNT vs Mexico? Times, how to watch on TV and stream online

The United States women’s national team gear up for the Olympic Games in Paris, Emma Hayes’ first major test as new head coach.

USWNT

New head coach Emma Hayes will take charge of the United States women’s national team for the first time this weekend, a friendly game against Mexico as they continue preparations for this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris.

USWNT suffered a severely disappointing exit from the World Cup last year, knocked out by Sweden in the first knockout round. Former Chelsea boss Hayes is expected to get the best out of a talented group of US players, but one caught between two generations of stars.

Hayes has wasted little time in leaving her mark on the team, cutting USWNT legend Alex Morgan from the roster for the Olympics. This will be the first major tournament since the 2008 Olympics that Morgan has not represented the US. The 35-year-old is a leader within the squad and one of the most decorated USWNT players but Hayes has sought to regenerate her squad.

“I’ve only had one opportunity to work with her in the last camp and I saw first-hand not just her qualities but her professionalism and her record speaks for itself,” Hayes explained when the roster was announced. “It’s not easy making a decision when there are only 16 outfield players and two goalkeepers on a roster of 18, so it was a tough decision of course.”

USWNT vs Mexico prediction

Back in February these two teams met in the CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup, where El Tri pulled off a historic 2-0 victory over their neighbours to the north. Goals from Lizbeth Ovalle and Mayra Pelayo earnt only the second-ever win for the Mexican side over USWNT, a historic victory for coach Pedro Lopez Ramos. This time around, with permanent head coach Emma Hayes leading the team, we’re predicting a narrow win for the United States: USWNT 2-1 Mexico.
