When will Gilberto Mora return from injury? Mexico starlet teases Tijuana comeback
Gilberto Mora has shared a photo of himself on the training field, as he moves closer to a return from a groin injury.

The return of Mexico’s most promising young star could be just around the corner. On Monday, Gilberto Mora took to social media to share an image showing him back on the field doing light training. “Another step closer,” wrote the Tijuana winger, hinting at how near he is to making his comeback. Mora is said to be fully locked in on his rehab, aiming to be ready in time for the World Cup.
How long has Mora been out?
The 17-year-old was diagnosed with pubalgia at the end of January, while on international duty for Mexico’s friendlies against Panama and Bolivia. His last appearance came in Matchday 3 of Liga MX, when Xolos hosted Atlético San Luis in Tijuana. After weeks away from the pitch, the Instagram Story he posted is the first image the Chiapas native has shared since his injury.
Both national team and club officials have repeatedly emphasized that their priority is getting him back to full fitness. The goal is for Mora to be ready for Mexico’s final three tune‑up matches before the World Cup - against Ghana, Serbia and Australia in late May and early June.

Will Mora miss the entire Liga MX season?
Tijuana head coach Sebastián Abreu has suggested Mora could return earlier than initially projected, meaning he might still get game time in Liga MX this season. “We’re all clear at the club that the priority is for him to be in optimal condition for the mini‑preseason before the World Cup, and that he’ll likely be able to get minutes before the league’s over,” Abreu said during a press conference.
Mora would be a key piece in Mexico boss Javier Aguirre’s attacking setup. With his return to the field approaching, everything points to him reclaiming the starting spot on the left flank.
