Lionel Messi will have a well-deserved holiday when he finishes celebrating his World Cup victory with Argentina. The Argentina captain had an extraordinary World Cup and won the only title missing from his endless list of honours. After a physically and mentally exhausting tournament, he is unlikely to play for PSG again for almost a month.

According to French outlet Le Parisien, the Argentine star will not return to training until at least the beginning of January. He will have a 12-day holiday and could extend his break in order to be fit enough to compete for PSG. What is certain is that he will not play either against Strasbourg on 28 December at the Parc des Princes or against Lens, despite the importance of the match, on 1 January 2023.

PSG return

In the best case scenario, the World Cup hero should be back in mid-January to return to action with PSG. But not before following a specific plan that will be defined by the national team’s medical staff and the Ligue 1 side. The objective is for Messi to arrive in peak condition for the round of 16 tie against Bayern Munich. The Champions League, the competition that has eluded him since 2015, will be the next title that could make his legendary status even greater.
