Manchester United have announced the appointment of Erik ten Hag as their new manager on a deal until 2025.

The 52-year-old will remain in charge of Ajax until the end of the season as the Dutch giants look to retain their Eredivisie title.

Three-year deal for Ten Hag

Ten Hag has signed a three-year contract, with the option of another 12 months at Old Trafford.

In a statement released by United, the club said: “Manchester United is delighted to announce the appointment of Erik ten Hag as Men’s First Team Manager, subject to work visa requirements, from the end of this season until June 2025, with the option to extend for a further year.”

United rebuild

Ralf Rangnick, currently in charge of the Premier League outfit, was brought in as interim manager following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November.

United suffered a 4-0 defeat to rivals Liverpool earlier this week and Rangnick discussed the club’s state after the match at Anfield. The German coach believes United’s rebuild could see up to 10 new players coming in. The club are believed to be targeting two midfielders and a striker, with a wide forward and a centre-back also reportedly on their list of objectives for the 2022/23 campaign.

Ten Hag happy it’s confirmed

Ajax have released their own statement, with Ten Hag saying: “I’m happy that it has been finalized and that it has been officially announced. That clarity is important. But I only have one interest now and that’s these last five games. I want to finish my time here on a positive note, by winning the league. By doing so, we’ll qualify directly for the Champions League. Ajax belongs there.”
