When will Sergiño Dest make his debut with AC Milan?
The United States international is reportedly headed to the Serie A and will play on a season-long loan with the Italian champions.
FC Barcelona and AC Milan have reached a deal to send Sergiño Dest to the Serie A on a season-long loan. This is good news for the 21-year-old and the United States men’s national team because he will have the opportunity to see some playing time before the FIFA World Cup kicks off from Qatar.
New opportunity for Dest
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the deal has gone through and the Serie A champions will have a €20 million buy option at the end of the season but it is not mandatory. If AC Milan decides to keep the US international, his contract will run through June 2027.
If not, Dest will have to return to FC Barcelona and look for other options next summer. If the paperwork goes through before Friday, Dest could be available for selection for the Serie A fixture against Inter on September 3 or he could make his debut in the UEFA Champions League against RRB Salzburg three days later.
It is expected that Sergiño Dest will arrive in Italy in the next few days to undergo a medical examination and join the rest of his new teammates in training. The United States international will earn an immediate spot in the starting XI because Alessandro Florenzi got injured in the 0-0 draw against Sassuolo.
The Italian full-back will be out for an extended period of time due to a muscular injury and this opens the door for Dest to earn a spot and showcase his talent. Dest will also help AC Milan on attack with him constantly going forward, but he will need to be more disciplined defensively in Italy’s top tier.
