Reigning world champions Argentina are the new leaders of the FIFA rankings after winning the World Cup in Qatar, while their neighbours Brazil have dropped to third place.

According to the rankings updated by FIFA on Thursday, La Albiceleste return to the top for the first time in six years. After winning their friendlies against Panama (2-0) and Curaçao (7-0), the world champions leapfrogged Brazil, who slip to third after losing 2-1 to Morocco in the latest international window.

World Cup finalists France have moved into second place thanks to wins over the Netherlands (4-0) and Ireland (0-1) in the first two qualifiers for EURO 2024.

These were the only changes in the top 10 of the ranking, with Belgium in fourth place, closely followed by England in fifth. Luis de la Fuente’s Spain side, who beat Norway 3-0 and lost 2-0 to Scotland in their EURO qualifying openers, remain in tenth place.
