Which MLS team does Atlético Madrid star Antoine Griezmann want to play for?
The Frenchman has previously spoken of his love for NBA, NFL and the United States, and has revealed where he would like to live stateside.
There can be no doubt Antoine Griezmann is one the biggest stars in LaLiga and world soccer. The Frenchman, through a combination of talent and hard work, has won back over fans of Atlético Madrid, who had previously been upset with him for leaving for Barcelona. At the age of 32, the 2018 World Cup winner knows his time playing at the very top level in Europe won’t go on forever. He has previously expressed his desire to move to the United States and MLS, and has now revealed which teams he would like to play for.
NBA and NFL fan Griezmann to finish European career with Atlético
Speaking to AS, Griezmann explained that a stint stateside would likely be his next adventure: “I want to finish my time in Europe at Atlético Madrid. I know the club want to make that happen and it’s something we’ll talk about. Beyond Europe, I have always said that I’d like to try MLS later. But I’m also 100% sure Atlético will be my last club in Europe. It’s where I want to be, it’s where I feel happiest and it’s where I feel at home.”
Griezmann has spoken about potentially crossing the pond on a number of occasions in recent months, claiming to be “in love” with the American lifestyle. He is also known to be a fan of the NBA and NFL, having attended a number of games in both leagues during his time off. With the decision to eventually move to the United States seemingly made, the big question now is which city he will live in and which team he could play for.
Inter Miami, LA Galaxy and LAFC on red alert for Griezmann
“I still don’t know if it will be Miami or Los Angeles. They are two great cities. I like the mentality and the entertainment culture in the United States,” Griezmann recently told French newspaper L’Equipe. A switch to Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami will inevitably be mooted when his time in Spain comes to an end, with the France star himself claiming in an interview he would sign for The Herons if co-owner David Beckham, his idol growing up, wants him.
Los Angeles Galaxy, who have won a record five MLS Cups but haven’t enjoyed much recent success, and 2022 winners LAFC would also be attractive options if Griezmann prefers life on the west coast.
Griezmann dreaming of Champions League success
At 32, there is, however, still time for the Frenchman to make more of a mark in Spain and in Europe, with Atlético Madrid hoping to come back into contention to win the Champions League having lost in finals in 2014 and 2016. Diego Simeone’s side will face Italian side Inter in the round of 16.
