It doesn’t get bigger than the Champions League on the club front. Tonight, PSG have the chance to advance to the quarter-finals of the Champions League when they take on Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

When Kylian Mbappé takes to the field, fans and players alike, especially those in red, will be thinking of the Frenchman’s words after his side’s 1-0 defeat in the first leg. A German journalist wanted to know which team would be favourites in the second leg, to which Mbappé, without batting an eyelid, replied: “Paris Saint-Germain, always”.

Mbappé turns Arsenal down

When at Monaco as a teenager, Mbappé rejected the chance to join Premier League side Arsenal in the summer of 2017, as reported by French media outlet L’Équipe. Instead of going to north London, he opted to stay in France and join PSG in a deal worth €180m, eventually going on to become the club’s top scorer. The newspaper claims Mbappé “barely considered” Arsenal’s approach as they didn’t qualify for the 2017-18 Champions League.

At 24, Mbappé has a remarkable CV but is still missing the Champions League. With France, he lifted the 2018 World Cup and 2021 Nations League. PSG have had their European struggles in recent years having lost the 2020 final to tonight’s opponents and being knocked out by Real Madrid last season despite winning the first leg in Paris. Now, as the club’s top scorer, Mbappé hopes to fire PSG into the quarter-finals of this year’s Champions League.
