Who are the highest paid MLS players?

Xherdan Shaqiri, Lorenzo Insigne and Chicharito Hernández are three of those well compensated for playing in Major League Soccer.

Major League Soccer released the list of the highest paid players in the North American league up until spring of this year, which puts Xherdan Shaqiri, Lorenzo Insigne and Chicharito Hernández as the highest paid.

MLS top paid stars not delivering

One fact that has left some fans scratching their heads, however, is that the three players that are bringing in the most money are far from being the stars of the current season. Not one of them is among the top 10 scorers at this point of the competition.

It feels as though both Insigne and Chicharito have forgotten how to find the back of the net for Toronto FC and LA Galaxy respectively, while Shaqiri has yet to celebrate his first goal of the tournament.

And if that were not enough, Toronto FC, who is the top payer, sits last in the Eastern Conference, while Chicago Fire is in 13th place. For its part, the LA Galaxy is also 13th in the Western Conference.

The highest paid players in MLS

The Swiss former Liverpool midfielder is the highest paid player in the league raking in a total of $8.15 million, surpassing Insigne who earns $7.50 million with the team managed by Bob Bradley. The podium is completed by Chicharito with a total of $7.44 million.

After the big three come Federico Bernardeschi in fourth, who earns a total of $6.30 million. He is closely followed by Argentine Sebastián Driussi who is on $6.02 million.
