Excitement is building in the U.S. ahead of the Copa América, which begins on June 20, and this very weekend sees a couple of highly attractive friendly games on North American soil.

One of those matches sees the USMNT facing Colombia in Washington DC, while in Texas, Mexico host Brazil. These two matchups are undoubtedly grabbing the limelight.

Importance of the friendlies for the USMNT and Brazil

Previously, USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter spoke about the importance of approaching these two games with utter professionalism to ensure the best possible preparation for the Copa América. It will be no surprise then if Team USA use their best players against both Colombia, and against Brazil on Wednesday.

Reports from Brazil and statements made during the pre-match press conference however suggest that Brazil coach, Dorival Jr., plans to use an alternative strategy with a changed lineup for the game against Mexico, though it will include some regular starters.

The intention of the Brazilian strategist is to involve players who have recently joined the team’s training camp in the United States, such as Vinicius, Rodrygo, and Éder Militao, among other key players.

What is certain is that the USMNT will face a tough challenge against the side from South America, no matter how much they learn from their match against Colombia this Saturday. What’s good news for fans in Orlando next Wednesday is that Brazil is expected to field its top players against the USMNT.

How could Brazil line up against the United States?

According to Dorival Jr.’s plan to give all his players game time in these two friendly matches and ensuring that Alisson Becker and Gabriel Martinelli will start against Mexico, the lineup against the USMNT is likely to be:

  • Marquinhos
  • Éder Militao
  • Danilo
  • Bruno Guimarães
