One of the most anticipated matches for football fans is the Clásico Nacional where Chivas and América are playing for more than just a result this weekend. On Saturday, the sides will meet for what is the 185th Clásico in official tournaments. Including unofficial matches, they have faced each other 246 times.

The rivalry dates back to the late 50s in Mexico, when on 12 November 1959, the first match was played between América and Chivas, with the latter winning 2-0. Since then, success has been shared between the two teams; however, there is one team that has an advantage in numbers.

América with the better Clásico record

América are the team that have won the most games in the Clásico Nacional, with a total of 90 victories to Chivas’ 77, with the team from the capital dominating. There have been 79 draws.

For the match at the Akron Stadium, América hope to get back to winning ways as the last time they won at their fierce rivals’ stadium was in the Clausura 2021 when they won 3-0 with a brace from Henry Martín and a goal from Sebastián Córdova.

In this Clausura 2023 tournament, América and Chivas are very evenly matched with the Rebaño Sagrado in fourth place in the overall standings with 21 points, while Las Águilas are fifth with 20 points.
