Who is Chelsea’s new owner? Todd Boehly has a winning background
Todd Boehly is also part owner of the Los Angeles Lakers and Dodgers, two franchises that have won championships under his tenure.
It is finally official! After 19 years, Roman Abramovich has sold Chelsea to American businessman Todd Boehly and the transaction should be finalized in the upcoming weeks. The Premier League side’s fans should be at peace with the 48-year-old due to his winning background with other sports franchises.
The American investor has an estimated net worth of $4.5 billion, according to Forbes, and is the chairman and CEO of Eldridge, a consultancy and financial services firm which he co-founded in 2015. Boehly is also part-owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and he is part of the group of investors that helped the franchise to become one of the best in MLB.
The Dodgers won the 2020 World Series for the first time since 1980 and they have been a top contender for the past decade. Boehly also helped revitalize the Los Angeles Lakers after purchasing a 27% stake to become the NBA’s third-highest valued team and the franchise won the NBA title in 2020, for the first time since 2010.
Boehly always had eye on the Premier League
This is not the first bid that the 48-year-old made for a Premier League team. Boehly attempted to buy Tottenham Hotspur in 2019, but the sale fell through. Three years later he made another bid when Chelsea was up for sale and successfully reached a deal with Roman Abramovich. So the fans from Stamford Bridge should remain optimistic about their new owner since his background speaks for itself.
