Who is Daniele Orsato, PSG-Dortmund Champions League referee?

Vicenza native Daniele Orsato has been selected by UEFA to oversee Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final (second leg) as PSG face Dortmund Champions League at the Parc des Princes in Paris (3:00 p.m. ET), with the Bundesliga holding a slender 1-0 advantage from the first leg.
The 48-year-old Orsato has been a UEFA referee since 2010 and before taking up the whistle where he acted as a coach. The Italian is one of UEFA’s more experienced match officials and oversaw three games at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He has a wealth of experience at this level, and has overseen more than 50 Champions League games in total with six coming this season already with his most recent assignment being the Manchester City-Real Madrid quarter-final at the Etihad Stadium.
The Italian referee team will be completed on Tuesday night by Massimiliano Irrati in the VAR booth along with Ciro Carbone and Alessandro Giallatini on the flanks and Davide Massa as fourth official.
Orsati has been in charge of 14 games in Serie A this season as well as overseeing games in both the domestic Saudi and UAE Pro Leagues. His biggest game on the European stage was the 2020 Champions League final in which PSG lost the title to Bayern Munich in a closed doors game in Lisbon due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
