Who is Makkelie?
Makkelie, 39, is a police officer from Willemstad in the Netherlands and has been a FIFA-listed referee since 2011.
At the Allianz Arena on Tuesday, he will be assisted by his compatriots Hessel Steegstra and Jan de Vries. Pol van Boekel, also from the Netherlands, will be in charge of VAR and will be helped by Tomasz Kwiatkowski from Poland.
The Dutch referee took charge of the Champions League fixture between Real Madrid and PSG at the Santiago Bernabéu in the second leg of the round of 16 last season, a game the Spanish team won 3-1.
Oliver to officiate Leverkusen-Atlético
English referee Michael Oliver will officiate the Champions League match between Bayer Leverkusen and Atlético Madrid on Tuesday. His linesmen will be his compatriots Stuart Burt and Simon Bennett. In the VAR room will be Chris Kavanagh and Stuart Attwell.
Oliver refereed the European Super Cup match between Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt on 10 August. Carlo Ancelotti’s side won 2-0 on the night.
The 37-year-old English referee has been an international since 2012 and is also among the 36 selected by FIFA as main the officials for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
