Hope Solo is one of the most well-known names in the history of women’s soccer, a USWNT veteran and member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame.

Born in the city of Richland, Solo endured a tumultuous childhood and was eager to move away from home when her sporting talents attracted the attention of the nation’s top female soccer colleges. She went on to represent the national team on 202 occasions and was a key member of the USWNT side that lifted the 2015 World Cup.

Her career, particularly with the national team, is the focus of an episode of Netflix’s new documentary series UNTOLD entitled ‘Hope Solo vs. U.S. Soccer’. The episode also covers her relationship with husband Jerramy Stevens, a former NFL player.

After a successful career in college football, winning the 2001 Rose Bowl with Washington, Stevens was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks with the 28th overall pick of the 2002 NFL Draft.

He played 12 games in his debut season with the Seahawks, making 21 receptions and scoring three touchdowns as a rookie. He was a key player for Seattle in the 2005 season in which the team made it to Super Bowl XL. Stevens caught three passes for 25 yards against the Steelers, including Seattle’s first-ever Super Bowl touchdown, but the team fell to a 21-10 loss.

In 2007 Stevens signed for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and spent four years with the team before his retirement at the end of the 2010 season. He was waived by the Buccaneers in October 2010, two days after an arrest for marijuana possession. That was just the latest in Stevens’ long history of trouble with police.

Jerramy Stevens’ career earnings from NFL

As the Seahawks’ first-round pick of the 2002 NFL Draft, Stevens was handed a substantial deal for the time. Shortly after the pick was confirmed ESPN reported that Stevens had penned a five-year contract worth around $6.2 million.

However his deal also included a provision that would allow the team to recoup a significant portion of the signing bonus - reportedly $2.3 million - if he faced disciplinary problems. At the time, Stevens told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer that he was happy to agree to the terms.

I think it helps both of us because we know exactly where we stand,” he said. “That always makes it easier, when everybody knows where they are at.”

Stevens likely fell foul of those terms, however, after continuing to find himself in trouble with referees, the league and law enforcement during his time in Seattle.

He was then picked up by the Bucs in free agency on a deal that featured no signing bonus and no guaranteed salary. The site CelebrityNetWorth estimates that Stevens made around $600,000 in each of his first two season in Tampa Bay, jumping to $1.9 million during his final year with the team. In total, that takes his total career earnings to around $9.5 million.
