The pre-tournament entertainment line-up in Qatar boasts an array of international artists across a variety of musical genres - many of whom have contributed to the official 2022 World Cup soundtrack. For this edition, for the first time, instead of one official song, FIFA will be releasing a compilation of tracks recorded by some of the seven to eight artists who will be taking to the stage at Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor during the opening ceremony on Sunday 20 November.

The latest to be added to the opening ceremony line-up, and who will also feature on the soundtrack, is K-pop star Jung Kook, one of the seven members of South Korean boy band BTS. The announcement of Jung Kook’s participation was announced on the group’s official Twitter account on Friday. “Proud to announce that Jung Kook is part of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Soundtrack & will perform at the World Cup opening ceremony. Stay tuned!”

Jung Kook joined BTS in 2013 when he was still just 15 years old and appeared on the group’s debut album 2 Cool 4 Skool which sold over 300,000 physical copies worldwide, peaking at No.12 on the US Billboard chart. Since then the group has released nine studio albums with sales hitting a record 10 million by the end of 2018. In April 2019, Time magazine named BTS one of the 100 most influential people of the year.

Solo career

Jung Kook, who currently lives in Korean capital Seoul, has enjoyed success on his own after issuing a handful of solo compositions such as 2010′s Still With You and 2020′s Stay Alive, produced by BTS bandmate Suga.

Confirmed artists who will be joining on the bill on Sunday include Bollywood star Nora Fatehi and American rapper Lil Baby while it is being rumoured that Shakira, Kizz Daniel or Dua Lipa could make guest appearances.
