Who is Mexico’s most valuable soccer star?
As the Mexicans prepare for World Cup tune-ups against Portugal and Belgium, we rank the transfer values of El Tri’s players.

In the world of soccer, the monetary value of players plays a major role in the sport’s dynamics - not only when it comes to transfers and business, but also as a reflection of their on‑field performance and long‑term potential. Armando González’s performances for Chivas Guadalajara have propelled him to the top of the list as the most valuable athlete in Mexico boss Javier Aguirre’s latest call‑up.
Breakout star’s value rockets
‘La Hormiga’ González has enjoyed a year that can only be described as exceptional. The 22-year-old made a massive leap in market value, jumping from $7 million to $15 million between January and March thanks to the 12 goals he’s scored in just 10 matches.
González’s outstanding showing in the Clausura 2026 is no surprise either. He has already reached 22 goals across the soccer calendar, a tally that has catapulted his international market value and established him as the most expensive player set to face Portugal and Belgium.
González isn’t just shining individually. Chivas have also emerged as the team to beat, known for their attacking firepower and an almost impenetrable back line.

Still, the striker isn’t the lone superstar on this roster. According to Transfermarkt, the most valuable players in Aguirre’s squad for the March international window are:
- Armando González: $15m
- Johan Vásquez: $13m
- Julián Quiñones: $12m
- Érik Lira: $12m
- Álvaro Fidalgo: $10m
- Alexis Vega: $9m
- Germán Berterame: $8.5m
- Obed Vargas: $8m
- Orbelín Pineda: $7m
- César Montes: $7m
Despite his soaring market value, González is still likely to start Mexico’s clash with the Portuguese on the bench. His hot streak is undeniable, but he still lacks the veteran savvy that players like Raúl Jiménez or Julián Quiñones have developed over time. The most recent Liga MX Golden Boot winner will have to wait for his opportunity to prove exactly why his price tag has climbed so high.
