Liverpool have announced the signing of Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen. Liverpool agreed a £6.5m fee with the Scottish side earlier this week to sign the right-back.

The £6.5m fee agreed will see Ramsay become Aberdeen’s record sale. The Scottish right-back becomes the club’s third summer signing after completing deals for Uruguayan striker Darwin Núñez, who joined from Benfica and Fabio Carvalho, who joined from newly-promoted Fulham.

There was also interest in Ramsay from clubs in England, Germany and Italy, according to Sky Sports.

Who is Calvin Ramsay?

Ramsay, 18, has represented Scotland at U16, U17 and U21 level. Liverpool see the highly-rated full-back as a long-term rival for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

“I look up to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s crosses and technique, and to get to that level would be great,” the Scottish U21 international said earlier this season.

Young Player of the Year for 2021-22

Ramsay progressed through the youth ranks at Aberdeen before making his senior debut in March 2021.

The young defender was named the Scottish Football Writers’ Association’s Young Player of the Year for 2021-22 and was also shortlisted for the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award.

In 2021-22, Ramsay played 22 league games for Aberdeen, scoring one goal and assisting five times from right-back.

Dream come true

“I’m just buzzing and it’s a dream come true really to be here,” Ramsay told Liverpoolfc.com in his first interview after completing his move from Scotland.

“It was a dream come true to play for Aberdeen, and now to be at one of the biggest, if not the biggest club in the world, it’s a massive achievement and I’m looking forward to trying to show the fans what I’ve got.

“Hopefully I can come in in pre-season, show everyone at the club, the staff, players what I’ve got and then we’ll see what happens from there.”
