Pachuca have confirmed the signing of Morocco international Oussama Idrissi, who was available on a free transfer after parting company with LaLiga club Sevilla earlier in September.

The forward, who spent last season on loan at Dutch champions Feyenoord, was unveiled in front of Pachuca’s home fans at half time of Los Tuzos’ 3-2 Liga MX win over Santos Laguna on Monday.

He has penned a two-year deal with the seven-time Mexican champions, and will wear the No. 5 shirt.

Idrissi a player in Ziyech mould

Born in the Netherlands, Idrissi qualifies for Morocco through his parents and has been capped nine times by the Atlas Lions since 2019.

A right-footed winger who is most at home on the left flank, he is reminiscent of international team-mate Hakim Ziyech - albeit he is less technically gifted than the Galatasaray player. He is also slightly quicker than Ziyech.

A two-time Dutch league winner

At club level, Idrissi has enjoyed most success in the Dutch league, where he has not only played for Feyenoord, but also Ajax, Groningen and AZ Alkmaar. Indeed, the 27-year-old has been considered one of the league’s best players in his position.

However, his spells in Spanish soccer have proved less fruitful. In stints with Sevilla and Cádiz - the latter on loan - he struggled to find form.

Last term, Idrissi scored four goals and supplied six assists in 27 Eredivisie appearances as Feyenoord - whose team featured Mexico’s Santiago Gimémez - won the 16th Dutch championship in the Rotterdam club’s history.

The forward was also an Eredivisie and Dutch Cup winner with Ajax in 2020/21.
