Who is Nimfasha Berchimas, USYNT’s top scorer at the U-17 World Cup
At just 15 years old, Berchimas has started to turn heads and has already bagged three goals for the USYNT at the U-17 World Cup in Indonesia.
The United States U-17 side are off to a flying start at the FIFA U-17 World Cup. A convincing 3-1 win in the opening game against South Korea saw Gonzalo Segares’ side deliver an accomplished performance to open the tournament.
Things were a little tougher in the second game as the USYNT rode their luck but managed to overcome Burkina Faso with a 2-1 win and with six points, are mathematically through to the Round of 16 in Indonesia.
One US player that has made the headlines is 15-year-old Nimfasha Berchimas with the Charlotte FC player’s performance against the Koreans creating a stir on social media.
Berchimas bagged a brace in Sunday’s opener and was on target on Wednesday hitting the second for the US in the win over the African side.
Who is Berchimas?
At just 15 years old, Berchimas is making history with the United States having become the youngest player in the history of the national team to play and score at a U-17 tournament after the emergence of Freddy Adu two decades ago. He also sits aloft the top scorer ranking in the early stages of the competition with his three goals in Indonesia.
According to several German media reports, Bayern Munich have their sights set on the Charlotte player for the medium-term future, with the striker having already spent some time with the Bundesliga side before signing for MLS side Charlotte FC. North Carolina native Berchimas has played for Crown Legacy (Charlotte B team) eight times in 2023 with the side from Carolina eliminated in the Next Pro playoffs at the hands of Columbus Crew 2.
