Who is Pedro de la Vega, Sounders’ reported DP target for 2024 MLS season?
Seattle Sounders are said to be lining up a swoop for Lanús winger De la Vega, 22, as they prepare for the new Major League Soccer campaign.
Major League Soccer franchise the Seattle Sounders are said to be closing in on a move for Argentinian starlet Pedro de la Vega ahead of the 2024 season.
De la Vega in for Sounders DP Lodeiro?
According to several reports, Seattle are working to bring De la Vega in as a ‘designated player’, with the 22-year-old filling the DP berth that is set to open up with the off-season departure of Sounders legend Nicolás Lodeiro.
Lanús gem with European suitors
An Argentina Under-23 international, De la Vega is viewed as one of the most exciting prospects to have emerged at his club, two-time Argentinian champions Lanús, in recent years. The winger, who scored six goals and supplied seven assists in the 2023 domestic season, has previously come close to leaving for Europe.
With an estimated market worth of nearly €7 million ($7.5 million), according to the specialist website Transfermarkt, De la Vega is the most valuable player in the Lanús squad.
Hit by major injury last year
The forward made his first-team debut for Lanús in 2018, at the age of just 17. His forceful personality and impudent playing style quickly saw him establish himself as a fan favourite, but his rapid development was halted by an anterior cruciate ligament tear in February 2022.
De la Vega’s ACL injury came at a time when he was being heavily linked with a host of European suitors, including LaLiga pair Sevilla and Real Betis; Serie A’s Fiorentina and Genoa; and Premier League club Brighton.
In 126 appearances for Lanús, the youngster has scored 17 goals and supplied 13 assists.
