The United States Women’s National Team have flown out of the blocks in the CONCACAF W Gold Cup as they brushed aside both the Dominican Republic and Argentina to already confirm a place in the last eight of the competition. They now face Mexico in the final group game on Monday night having beaten La Tri in their past sixteen meetings.

The side are currently being coached by Twila Kilgore who took the reins on a temporary basis after US Soccer and Vlatko Andonovski parted way after a poor showing at the 2023 World Cup. Kilgore’s position was always temporary and she will stand aside when Emma Hayes takes control once her relationship with the Chelsea women’s team ends this season.

Kilgore is a 44-year-old former American soccer player who began her career with US Soccer in 2019, when she joined the U-19 team and later joined Andonosvki’s technical staff in 2022 and came to oversee Under-23 in a camp during January of that year.

At the moment, Kilgore is implementing the generational change within the USWNT squad and has seen the likes of and Julie Ertz or Megan Rapinoe retire. Kilgore was alsop prepared to leave Alex Morgan out of the Gold Cup squad but later included the San Diego Wave striker due to Mia Fishel’s unfortunate injury. Her record as coach of the American team is 5 wins and 1 draw.

Two challenged lie ahead for the 44-year-old as she aims to secure both the 2024 Women’s Gold Cup and SheBelieves Cup which takes place in April.
