Having already made sure of their place in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Copa América, Argentina head into today’s final round of Group A games aiming to secure top spot. Meanwhile, Canada, Chile and Peru will all be battling to claim the section’s other knockout-stage berth.

Argentina vs Peru - 8pm ET/5pm PT, Miami

After stamping their ticket to the last eight with victories over Canada and Chile, Argentina are certain to win the group as long as they avoid defeat to Peru.

Depending on the result of the day’s other game in Group A, the Albiceleste - who have received positive news on the injury Lionel Messi sustained against Chile - could also finish first even if they lose. Sitting three points behind Argentina, second-placed Canada can only top the group if they beat Chile by a margin of victory that allows them to overhaul the Argentinians’ +4 goal-difference advantage.

Winners of their third World Cup in 2022, Argentina are chasing a 16th Copa América title - but only their second since 1993.

Peru, who have collected just one point from their opening two games at the 2024 Copa América, need to beat Argentina to have any chance of qualifying for the quarter-finals. Ominously for the two-time tournament winners, they haven’t beaten the Argentinians since back in 1997.

Currently bottom of Group A, Peru will snatch a top-two place if they win, and Canada and Chile draw. Jorge Fossati’s men can also qualify if they and Chile both win, but they would need to beat the Chileans on tiebreakers to consign La Roja to third place.

Canada vs Chile - 8pm ET/5pm PT, Orlando

Making their first appearance at the Copa América, Canada head into the final round of Group A games in second, having bounced back from defeat to Argentina with a 1-0 win over Peru. The Canucks will definitely reach the quarter-finals if they beat Chile today. A draw will also take Jesse Marsch’s team through as long as the Peruvians don’t beat Argentina.

As mentioned above, Canada can still win the group, but have to make up a three-point deficit on Argentina and reverse the leaders’ goal-difference advantage.

Back-to-back Copa América winners in 2015 and 2016, Chile are third in Group A with just a single point - and only a victory will do for Ricardo Gareca’s side today. The Chileans are certain to go through if they win and Peru don’t. As outlined earlier, last-eight qualification will come down to tiebreakers if Chile and Peru are both victorious.

Canada and Chile have never met in a competitive game. Their most recent friendly clash was in October 1995, when the Chileans won 2-0 in Concepción.
